SALT LAKE CITY — Tens of thousands of holiday food kits with granola bars intended for kids in the Granite School District need to be repackaged.

Granite district officials said the granola bar has been recalled for potential salmonella contamination, and need to be removed from the kits.

It’s Quaker Oats granola bars that are causing the problem. Granite Education Foundation program manager Rami Prince says they need help from the public.

“It’s the last week of school. The students go home on Thursday,” Prince said. The packages need to be given to the kids before they leave on Thursday.

Prince said they’ll welcome anyone willing to volunteer their time.

Some people have already heard the call, and jumped into action. April Foysten is a district employee and volunteer. When she heard about the problem, she rallied her daughter’s help, too.

“Anyone that can come and help and just zip and unzip, and toss. Get them ready so we can get them out to the schools and to the kids, that would be so great.”

There’s more information on the Granite Education Foundation’s website.
