SALT LAKE CITY — The Hogle Zoo said that Milenka, one of their snow leopards, has died at the age of 15 and one-half.
According to a press release from the zoo, Milenka became a resident of Hogle Zoo in 2019. She was 11 years old at that time.
“Her unique vocalizations, a blend of chuffs and clicks, were known to melt hearts around her,” the zoo said in a press release.
The ability to view a snow leopard in a natural habitat is rare. The World Wildlife Fund described the animal as one of the world’s “most elusive cats.” In the wild they are spread across multiple countries in central Asia, including China and Afghanistan.
“Milenka will be dearly missed by her community,” the zoo wrote in a press release, “including her dedicated animal care and health teams, staff, volunteers, and guests.
