Initial Deer Valley expansion plans approved

PARK CITY, Utah — Deer Valley has been given the go-ahead to begin an expansion that would eventually make Deer Valley the sixth-largest resort in North America.
Phase one of the expansion, the Lift 7 project, received unanimous approval from the Park City Planning Commission last week.

The Deer Valley expansion will add nearly 3,000 acres of new terrain, with nine new lifts on four different peaks.
Much of the planning for this project included determining how construction and new development might impact wildlife, as well as skier safety.
According to a statement from Summit Sotheby’s Enjoy Park City, some raised concerns about protecting local wildlife at a previous planning commission meeting.
The approval came with conditions. The safety of wildlife must be guaranteed during construction.
Limitations have been placed on the types of fencing that can be used. Additionally, migratory bird nests can not be disturbed.
A report suggested the project wouldn’t disturb wildlife during the winter. Reportedly, that claim helped the planning commissioners give their approval.
The project is expected to be completed by the 2025-2026 winter season.
