LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON – It’s the rare occasion where new snow on the slopes of a ski resort might not be  good thing.

Hydrologists say snow storms like this in June happen roughly once every five years. Skier Evan Thayer was pumped to hit the slopes, even though Snowbird’s last ski day was two days ago.

He says, “They got over 600 inches this winter and the snow is sticking around.” He adds, “Conditions up there were great. It was three to six inches of dense snow, but, it’s June. So, any snow we get is going to be awesome.”
But, the resort had to put summer activities, like hiking on hold for the day. People like Colton Goodrich from Orem were hoping to bring their kids up to hit the trails. He says, “Sometimes, nature gets in your way. Unfortunately, it slowed us down.”
And it came as a big surprise to tourists like Bob and Sue from Clarkdale Arizona. He says, “For being June 13th, I didn’t expect there to be this much snow. But, they’re taking it in stride. Sue says, “No, it’s not a disappointment. It’s beautiful.”
