Overnight SUV crash leaves man in critical condition, police investigating

SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in the hospital after an overnight SUV crash in Salt Lake City. The Salt Lake City Police Department is currently investigating.
According to a press release, the investigation began at 12:47 a.m. Sunday. Police received a report of an SUV crashed into a tree near 980 S. 900 W.
Upon their arrival, firefighters with the Salt Lake City Fire Department provided life-saving care to the 20-year-old driver of the vehicle. Following this, the driver was taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition, according to SLCPD.
No other people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, according to the press release.
Based on preliminary information, SLCPD believes the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed before losing control of the SUV and crashing into a tree.
Detectives are currently investigating whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the overnight SUV crash.
