Drought returns to Utah in Tooele County

SALT LAKE CITY — Roughly half of Tooele County and a small part of Box Elder County are in a drought. This update coming from a U.S. Drought Monitor report this week.

The Drought Monitor last reported on drought conditions in the state on June 25.

The Drought Monitor’s July 23 report found that those areas, Tooele County and Box Elder County, were experiencing moderate drought conditions.

The same report found that almost 55% of Utah is abnormally dry. That’s nearly a 2% increase from the monitor’s report last week.

Rain last night and this morning helped cool things off around the state.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said there might be some scattered showers across the state later this Friday.
