OPINION: Are P.C. police ruining Columbus Day?

OPINION

Death to Columbus Day? Is Christopher Columbus getting a bad rap? Or should we embrace Indigenous Peoples’ Day? Is this just political correctness run amok or is there something to this?

I agree Columbus was terrible to the indigenous people. He stole their land, enslaved them, and nearly wiped out their entire civilization by introducing them to diseases.

But should we behold members of the past accountable to the awareness and understanding of the present? Are we going to throw out the good with the bad? What about George Washington who had numerous slaves? Are we going to throw out Washington with Columbus?
