KSL's Unrivaled will focus on sports, but other stories, too...

NFL quarterback and University of Utah legend Scott Mitchell joins the super-informed and always-hilarious Alex Kirry to cover the biggest sports stories every weeknight from 7-9 PM.

Our new show is finally here! Former NFL quarterback and University of Utah legend Scott Mitchell joins the super-informed and always-hilarious Alex Kirry to cover the biggest sports stories every weeknight from 7-9 PM.

Alex and Scott never take themselves too seriously and if there is a sports topic they love, they want you to hear about it on KSL’s Unrivaled.

“We’re committed to cover all the teams that people around our great state love, and so every night will be quite a ride across the sports landscape,” said Kirry.

Obviously, they’re going to tackle Utah and BYU football, but they also have huge opinions about the Jazz, the NFL and Cougar and Ute basketball.

“We have an opportunity to do something really special in the sports-talk world,” said Kirry. “Scott Mitchell is a great resource for us to have and a great person so we’re pumped to work together.”

Scott Mitchell grew up in a small town in Utah where sports became his passion.  He won State Championships in football and baseball while attending Springville high school.  He was the Utah state MVP in football and baseball, and the Utah Gatorade player of the year in Football.

His passion for sports continued in college at the University of Utah where he majored in economics. In four years at Utah, he set 10 WAC and 38 NCAA passing records along with every major passing record at Utah.  He was the conference player of the year and an all-conference player.  He now is the radio color voice for University of Utah football games.

The Miami Dolphins drafted Mitchell in the NFL in 1990.  He played professional football for 12 years with the Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals.  He was named AFC and NFC player of the week and player of the month several times in the NFL.  Mitchell finished his career with over 17,000 yards passing and 115 touchdown passes.

Mitchell believes words have the power to change people’s lives. He believes he’s found a home at KSL which shares his vision. In addition to KSL’s Unrivaled, he also hosts two digital programs at Bonneville Salt Lake: ‘Helmets Off’, which has been recognized as one of the top ten branded podcasts in the US, and ‘Rivals’, which plays on the BYU-Utah rivalry.

Mitchell is also the color voice on KSL’s ‘GNL’ (Game Night Live). Each week in the fall, Scott joins KSL TV’s Rod Zundel to broadcast some of the most exciting high school football games each Friday night.

Mitchell and his wife Wendy have five children. He loves fly fishing and the out of doors. He is very active, coaching his kids in sports, and loves serving in his church.

“Being able to talk every day about sports is the dream of all dream jobs, and to do it with Alex Kirry, who shares my passion and who also brings such a fun and entertaining personality, takes it over the top,” said Mitchell. “We are committed each day to give our listeners a show like no other. It is unrivaled. We bring an insight to sports that you can’t get any other place,  entertainment to keep you laughing, and content that keeps you coming back show after show.”

In addition to co-hosting KSL’s Unrivaled, Alex Kirry was recently named as the KSL Newsradio Sports Director.  He has a degree in Broadcast Journalism from BYU and has covered BYU on KSL for more than a decade as a reporter, in-studio host on the game day broadcast team, and has been the host of ‘Cougar Sports Saturday’ since 2010.  He also hosted the popular ‘Nightside Project’ on KSL Newsradio for 10 years and still does the show as a podcast.  Texas-born, Washington-raised, Alex has been in Utah since 2002 and lives in Salt Lake City with his very patient wife and five wild kids.
