SALT LAKE COUNTY — Search and rescue from Unified Police were called out to Mount Superior Sunday afternoon to rescue an injured climber.

The injured man fell over 120 feet

According to Sgt. Melody Cutler with Unified Police Department (UPD), a call came in at about 1:45 p.m. on November 28th.

Two men were scaling the South Ridge of Mount Superior when one of them fell. A 47-year-old male had slipped and fallen approximately 20 feet onto a ledge, then slipped again and fallen another 100 feet or more due top weather conditions.

The injured man’s hiking partner called 911 and climbed down to where his partner landed.

Due to injuries sustained, the man had to be life flighted

UPD’s canyon police requested a Life Flight helicopter to get the man needed medical help. He was transported by LifeFlight from Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge to the University of Utah Medical Center in fair condition for treatment. According to Sgt. Cutler, the man suffered a concussion, but other than that he should be fine.

Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue reported that they deployed a team to help the injured man’s hiking partner off the mountain. By 4:30 p.m., both had safely left the ridge.
