PASADENA, Calif. — The Rose Bowl is just hours away now, but the Utah Utes have already put their time in Pasadena to good use.

Both Utah and Penn State took part in a friendly competition Saturday. Each worked with alumni and fans to put together thousands of meal kits for families in need in the area.

The service project is a competition with the team. Whoever put together the most meals was dubbed the winner. This year, that was Utah.

University of Utah President Taylor Randall said it’s an important part of the whole experience.

“The Rose Bowl is such an incredible pageant. It’s nice to ground yourself in the community where you’re gonna be for a few days and be able to serve,” Randall said.
