SALT LAKE CITY — Rocky Mountain Power announced late Monday night that it had restored power to nearly all customers who lost power this weekend.

As of 9 p.m. on Monday night, Rocky Mountain Power said there were 779 customers in the Salt Lake Valley still without power. That’s down from more than 14,300 customers who were without power on Sunday in the same area.

More than 42,000 customers have had power restored since the outages were first reported as a result of the weekend storm.

In a news release, Rocky Mountain Power issued the following statement:

“The utility is prioritizing customers who have been out the longest, with a target to have those customers who were affected on Sunday restored by midnight tonight. More work remains to restore all customers, as more outages occurred as the storm continued into Monday. The company will push to have nearly all customers restored on Tuesday.”

Getting power restored is time-consuming

Because of scattered damage from the weekend storm, Rocky Mountain Power said the work to restore power is labor-intensive.

“As crews work their way through this final stage, some damage may be affecting only one or a handful of customers,” the news release said.

Crews from Rocky Mountain Power have also been sent to southeastern Idaho, Richfield, Cedar City, and Price to help those local crews restore power.

To ensure safety and to help crews, Rocky Mountain Power encourages the following safety tips:

  • Stay away from all utility and power lines.
  • Do not drive a vehicle over power lines that are down.
  • Keep a safe distance from workers.
  • Check on your neighbors.
  • Keep mobile devices fully charged, while you have power.
  • Keep the doors to the refrigerator and freezer closed.
  • Remember your pets.

At their webpage, Rocky Mountain Power offers suggestions for power outage safety at homes and businesses.

We want to hear from you.
