ST. GEORGE, Utah — A brush fire damaged one St. George home. The fire began at a nature park.
St. George City Fire Chief Robert Stoker said they got a report of smoke at Brooks Nature Park. Additionally, the report said that some juveniles were witnessed running from the scene.
“[The] Nature Park has a little Pond has a lot of undergrowth and trees. Things like that,” said Stoker.
According to Stoker, when crews arrived, the wind had pushed the brush fire to a home that overlooks the park.
“We did have a pretty good wind coming from the south that pushed it up into the hill. The fire was heading towards that home [and] did impinge on that home,” said Stoker. “We were able to get some resources up there and got the fire knocked down and contained around that home.”
According to Stoker, the fire happened early in the year. “We’re in April, but it was kind of a large wildland fire at this point within our city.”
The chief said that wind and dry fall in the park helped the St. George brush fire spread. Damage to the home was minor. Authorities were able to knock down the flames before they got inside.
