SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City School District has a new superintendent. Elizabeth Grant is her name and she is ready to take on the opportunities and challenges the district faces.
Grant says one of the biggest issues facing Salt Lake Schools is the dwindling number of young families. There’s even a chance that some schools could close. The district will be addressing this in the coming months.
Despite this, she is optimistic, saying she plans on creating a work environment that teachers will want to be a part of.
Additionally, Grant says the district also has a lot of opportunities since it is surrounded by potential partnerships with businesses, universities and non-profits.
First on her to-do list, she says, is getting out into the community to find out what the families need firsthand.
“Connecting to the community and building up trustful relationships that way,” Grant says. “The goal of this is that we’re all pulling in the same direction.”
