PROVO, Utah — Your skis may be ready for the upcoming season, but is your wallet? A one-day lift ticket at some resorts could cost as much as $300.
Although there hasn’t been much snow on our mountains yet, resorts like Park City and Deer Valley already have prices set for lift tickets through the ski season.
Sam is a student at Brigham Young University. He has 15 years of skiing experience but says he wouldn’t pay that much.
“Honestly, anything over 200 bucks for me is hard. I mean just being a college student,” he said. “I get it I guess, but it’s definitely hard to bite that bullet usually.”
Jamie is a manager at BYU Outdoor Adventures, a place where students can rent ski and snowboard supplies. Her reaction was just a few words; “Wow, that’s too much.”
“Anything over $100 is too much for me,” she said. “I think, ‘I’m just skiing there, why are you charging me 100 dollars?’ ”
However, she understands that there is a high cost associated with the upkeep of resorts, including keeping the trails groomed and paying all the workers. Despite operating costs, she said, “That’s a lot for a day pass.”
Sam said that while the price is too high for his budget, he isn’t surprised that prices keep going up.
“It’s the nature of ski resorts. It seems to be, you know, just getting more expensive and more expensive.”
If the prices are too high for your taste, most resorts, including Park City and Deer Valley do offer discounted ticket prices if you buy them in advance. Additionally, some resorts offer a discount for purchasing multi-day lift tickets.
