Southbound I-15 closed in Orem after UHP trooper-involved crash

OREM, Utah — A crash involving a Utah Highway Patrol trooper killed one person and closed southbound I-15 in Orem on Sunday morning.
The I-15 closure was in place at 800 North. Drivers are advised to use an alternate route.

According to the UHP, a wrong-way driver was on the roadway shortly after 2 a.m. A Trooper made contact with the vehicle in a head-on collision. There were two people in the wrong-way vehicle. The crash killed the driver. The passenger is in critical condition.

After the crash, the UHP trooper was transported to the hospital. They are in “good shape, good spirits” and are expected to recover UHP said.
At this time, it is unknown if impairment played a part in the incident.
The Orem Police Department and Utah County’s OICI Team are investigating.
