SALT LAKE CITY — Utahns will have the cheapest electricity bills in the country this year, according to a recent study.
According to data analyzed by Texas Electricity Ratings, the average Utahn will have an electricity bill amounting to $1,047 in 2024.
Rocky Mountain Power Spokesman Dave Eskelsen said they have worked hard to keep prices low by utilizing a variety of power sources.
“We have coal resources [and] natural gas resources. We have investments in wind power,” said Eskelsen.
According to Eskelsen, up to 90% of their power is generated by their power plants. Additionally, their transmission system is one of the largest in the country.
Eskelsen said they are working to meet future needs, too, by installing more electric vehicle charging stations. And Rocky Mountain Power’s long-range plan includes looking at nuclear power.
Eskelsen said the company does a balancing act in figuring out power needs every day. Additionally, he said they are planning changes with the seasons. For instance, summer has the highest power demand.
“We’ve worked hard to be among the lower-priced utility providers in the nation and we’re working hard to keep our place there,” Eskelsen said.
