WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a bill that would ban TikTok in the United States unless it breaks ties with its parent company, ByteDance.
If this bill becomes law, it would give TikTok about five months to cut ties, or the app stores in the U.S. would be required to take it off their platforms.
The social media app is used by 170 million Americans.
Now the bill moves to the Senate — it’s unknown how a vote there would go.
President Joe Biden has said he would sign it if the TikTok ban is passed.
CNN reports the vote passed with 352 in favor and 65 opposing.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
