SALT LAKE CITY — It’s Pi Day.
And in a world where the religion has been taken out of Christmas, where Memorial Day has become a chance to “save like never before” at electronics stores. Pi Day has become nothing more than a day to eat fruit filling covered in crust.
I want to bring back the meaning of Pi Day.
Pi is the Latin alphabet letter used as an algebraic shorthand for the circumference of a circle divided by its diameter.
It is an irrational number that never resolves, which means it goes on forever. It is a lodestar of mathematics and the first three digits are 3.14.
So, many of us honor this endless number by eating pie at work.
Instead, we should be bringing gifts to our junior high school math teachers.
Yes, I want to bring back the original meaning of the holiday.
We should have special ceremonies where speakers offer a dramatic reading of Pi. Which I will offer now, providing music to help you remember this renowned number.
