TAYLORSVILLE, Utah One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Taylorsville Sunday afternoon. Police identified the man on Monday as 33-year-old Foueti Afeaki.

The Taylorsville Police Department said in a statement that three of its officers shot Afeaki after he allegedly pulled a gun on them.

The incident happened near 3900 W. 5800 S. at approximately 12:30 p.m.

According to police, officers were there to talk about a domestic violence case.

Taylorsville Police Lt. Aaron Cheshire told KSL the incident occurred in the garage portion of the home.

“At some point during the investigation, during the incident, the suspect produced a weapon and there were officers that discharged their firearm,” Cheshire said.

Police did not say if Afeaki fired his weapon.

Hilario Rodriguez, who lives in the neighborhood, shared his account of the situation with KSL.

“Last night, I came home about 9 o’clock,” Rodriguez said “Police were here. So, I went inside. Don’t want to get anyone’s business. And then showed up here, started working on my truck. Police showed up again. I heard gunshots. I went inside for a second. Came back out. Just continue working on my truck.”

Rodriguez said the situation happened quickly.

“They were they were pretty quick,” he said. “I just reacted like I have always. I’ve heard them before and just went inside.”

Afeaki was transported to a hospital in critical condition but later died. No officers were injured in the shooting.

“The cops handled it, they did their job,” Rodriguez said. “Went in there, took care of it, got the guy out, and then called it good.”
