SALT LAKE CITY — Three crashes on or near Bangerter Highway this afternoon are all tied back to a police chase involving a motorhome.
Unified Police Sergeant Aymee Race said the pursuit started just after 1 p.m. That’s when police identified that motorhome as a “suspicious vehicle.”
“They attempted to stop that vehicle,” she said. “The vehicle backed into the officer’s vehicle and took off.”
From there, police started an active pursuit of the motorhome, following it through 54th and Bangerter. That pursuit led to a three-car crash.
“The vehicle continued to 4700 South and Bangerter, where there was another two-car crash,” Race said.
When the motorhome got to 4100 S. and Bangerter, the driver tried to turn eastbound. That’s where they crashed.
Race said officers arrested the two people inside the motorhome. The driver was identified as 39-year-old James Harper.
According to Race, Harper has a history with previous weapons charges. However, the passenger in this case is not a police custody. There were no injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing, with Taylorsville and West Valley Police Departments assisting.
