Live at 4:45 p.m.: Looking back at OJ Simpson’s life

SALT LAKE CITY — The family of OJ Simpson announced via X that the former football player and the man who was accused and later acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife, has died. He had been battling cancer.

The career of OJ Simpson

Simpson played on the University of Southern California’s football team before being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1969, according to the Pro Football Hall of Fame

In 1973, Simpson made NFL history when he rushed more than 2,000 yards.

His football career lasted 11 seasons. Then he began acting.

ABC reported that Simpson starred in Hertz commercials and the film Capricorn One in the 1970s. He also starred in The Naked Gun series in the 1970s and ’80s.

Simpson accused of murder

Simpson married Nicole Brown in 1985. They had two children together before they divorced in 1992, per ABC.

On June 12, 1994, Brown and her family had dinner at a restaurant where her friend, Ron Goldman worked.

Following the meal, Goldman arrived at Brown’s house to return her mother’s glasses. They had been left behind at the restaurant.

Shortly after midnight, Brown and Goldman were found dead. Simpson became a suspect.

Simpson was later arrested following the now infamous 45-minute police chase on June 17, 1994.

He later went on trial for the murder. He was acquitted. The case remains unsolved.
