SALT LAKE CITY — The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced on Tuesday that it had arrested a minor over the weekend for posting a fake bomb threat on social media at the Salt Lake City International Airport.
According to the FBI, the minor from Wyoming posted a picture while on a plane at SLC International Airport on March 22. They reportedly captioned the post “bomb has been planted.”
Authorities determined the post didn’t pose a real threat. They arrested the minor on March 31 when they arrived back at the SLC Airport.
The FBI issued a warning that hoax threats are taken very seriously. They advised against posting threats, even as a joke, to avoid wasting law enforcement’s time and resources and to avoid serious consequences.
