SALT LAKE CITY — A six-year-old girl died in a car crash this morning around 5 a.m. on Sunday after a pickup truck collided with a semi-truck on US 6 at mile post 223.5.
Andy Battenfield with Utah Highway Patrol said the father of the six-year-old was driving the pickup truck with an empty flatbed trailer in tow.
The pickup was reported to be heading west bound when the pickup drifted into the east bound lane. A semi-truck heading east bound then struck the truck.
Battenfield stated that the six-year-old girl died at the scene. She was reported to have been sitting in her car seat in the back seat of the truck on the passenger side.
The girl’s father and the driver of the semi-truck had non-life-threatening injuries.
Department of Public Safety stated in a press release that drowsy driving could have been the cause for this accident.
Both directions of US 6 were closed until around 11:30 a.m., according to UDOT traffic maps.
