PAYSON, Utah — Nebo School District said that Mt. Nebo Middle School received a fourth bomb threat.

According to the school district, police swept the building. They did not find anything dangerous. The school will not be evacuated.

Yesterday, the district said that extra personnel have been assigned to the school to handle the threats.

Outrage over “furries”

The threats have occurred over the last three weeks.

They began after a controversy surrounding the alleged presence of “furries” attending the school.

Furries are people who choose to dress, and sometimes act, with animal characteristics.

Allegations of students biting and scratching one another caused a social media firestorm.

The school district previously said there was no evidence to support the allegations. Seth Sorenson, a spokesperson for the school district, told KSL.com that some students began wearing animal headbands to school.

That prompted others to throw food at them, according to Sorenson.

Sorenson said that the school’s administrators reminded parents of the dress code. Additionally, officials spoke with the students who had worn the attire.

The allegations spread over social media, prompting a small protest outside Mt. Nebo Middle School. Sorenson told KSL.com that the protest was peaceful.
