SALT LAKE CITY — Years after Utah hosted the 2002 Olympic Games, its legacy still lives on through the youth in the state.
Since the games, the Youth Sports Alliance has embraced the legacy it left behind.
Executive Director Emily Fisher said since the games, it has been using the Olympic facilities to help Utah’s youth stay more active.
“Try all these things and see what you like. And, maybe what you don’t is just as important,” she said. “But without those opportunities, I think … with just traditional sports you might, you might not get as many kids involved in sports.”
Fisher said the Youth Sports Alliance is trying to make winter sports more accessible to all youth.
The organization offers scholarships to help pay for the fees.
According to Fisher, hosting the Olympics is about more than just the games.
“It’s really about what kind of legacy we can leave and what kind of opportunities will be there for youth,” she said.
Fisher said she is excited for what legacy the potential 2034 Olympic Games in Utah could have on the youth.
