Popular downtown farmers market returns this year

SALT LAKE CITY — The Pioneer Park Farmers market will be open for business this Saturday, June 13, 2020 — but with many changes in place to support social distancing and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Organizers canceled all arts and crafts booths along with live music venues. Visitors also won’t be able to pay cash for any purchases.
In order to keep both the public and farmers and other vendors safe during the coronavirus pandemic, the market will not feature any prepared food booths or seating areas.
The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food says the food supply is safe. However, they’ve had to implement many of these changes to reduce the chances of spreading COVID-19.
Organizers say the good news is there will be plenty of food. But individual booths and the weekend market events as a whole will look more like grocery stores, with only eggs, meat and fresh produce for sale.
The 29th annual Farmers Market at Pioneer Park also has reduced hours this year, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will run every Saturday between June 13 and October 24, 2020. You can read more about their coronavirus prevention protocols here.
How To Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus
COVID-19 coronavirus spreads person to person, similar to the common cold and the flu. So, to prevent it from spreading:
- Wash hands frequently and thoroughly, with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds.
- Don’t touch your face.
- Keep children and those with compromised immune systems away from someone who is coughing or sneezing (in this instance, at least six feet)
- If there is an outbreak near you, practice social distancing (stay at home, instead of going to the movies, sports events, or other activities.)
- Get a flu shot.
