SALT LAKE CITY — Meteorologists say the Wasatch Front can expect more record-breaking heat on Saturday with the forecast high hitting 104 degrees in Salt Lake City.

On Friday, the mercury topped 104 degrees, shattering the old record of 102 for that date, set in 2000.

“104 again, it would break a record, again, and when you look at the seven-day forecast, those 100s, they just keep coming,” said KSL Meteorologist Kevin Eubank, who predicts record-breaking heat will stick around through early next week.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for the region.

Even the evening low temperatures have not offered much relief; the lows over the weekend are expected to hit no lower than the lower 70s. Temperatures had already reached the mid-80s by mid-morning Saturday, forecast to reach triple-digits by early afternoon.

“[It] finally [gets] back to average for Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday, with lows leaving the 70s and headed back into the 60s,” Eubank said.

Salt Lake County offers two cooling centers for residents and visitors to avoid the extreme temperatures. Both the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy and the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City will be open from noon to 7 p.m. through August 7. County officials say free parking is available at both sites.
