RIVERTON, Utah – The Jordan School Board voted to move Bingham High School to online learning for three days due to increasing COVID-19 cases on campus.

Bingham High School students will have online classes Oct. 27-29, which is the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after fall break.

Because Monday, Oct. 26 is a “grade transmittal” day, that means students will not be on campus for a full two weeks.

Bingham High School has 27 active COVID-19 cases, with 263 students in quarantine.

Principal Rodney Shaw told the school board he believes part of the reason the campus is seeing more COVID-19 cases is that students are taking advantage of the state’s new guidelines, which cut the number of days in quarantine down to seven.

“They go get tested for a negative test to return to school,” Shaw said. “[They’re] completely asymptomatic and then end up testing positive.”

The school board also voted to have Copper Hills High School and Riverton High School undergo deep cleaning during fall break.

Copper Hills and Riverton high schools each have 21 active cases of coronavirus. There are 43 students and 133 students quarantining, respectively.

Riverton High School has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases, while Copper Hills seems to have plateaued.
