PARK CITY, Utah — Park City plans to provide 200 free trees to residents as part of its Planting Park City initiative. The initiative aims to help the city reach its goal of being carbon neutral by 2030.

The city will partner with Arbor Day Foundation to provide free trees to homeowners. The trees are all drought-resistant species.

“Healthy trees in our city provide green infrastructure, local resilience to increasingly extreme weather patterns, and improve our local air quality,” said Park City Mayor Nann Worel. “Planting drought-tolerant trees is a climate action that everyone can take.”

Species include Amur Maple, Bur Oak, Narrowleaf Cottonwood, and Spring Snow Crabapple. The city said it would try to give participants their first choice of tree, but advised that supplies are limited.

Residents wanting to grab a free tree can reserve up to two trees online. Pick-up days for the trees are June 9 and June 12.

The trees will come in five-gallon buckets and will be about two to six feet tall.

The city said participants have to be able to pick up their trees on one of the two pick-up days or be able to send someone to pick the trees up for them. The pick-up location will be at Quinns Junction at 84098, Gillmor Way.

Any unclaimed trees at the end of the last pick-up day, according to the city.
