SALT LAKE CITY — South Salt Lake is home to the creative hotspot of the county. Each year, South Salt Lake’s Creative Industries Zone hosts artists from all over Utah and across the country through an event called Mural fest. The open-air gallery in South Salt Lake grows as newly selected artists bring unique art to the area.

The lineup of new artists is displayed on the Mural Fest Website. A meet and greet will take place on May 14, 2022, along West Temple from Main St to 300 West. This will give the community a chance to see 10 new murals and meet this year’s selected artists, according to the event’s Website.

Additionally, food trucks and live entertainment will be present at the event. Pink directional flags and giant balloons will aid as direction to the festival. Maps will also be available at Level Crossing Brewing Co, Beehive Distilling, or Saltfire Brewing Co.

The South Salt Lake Arts Council and the Utah Arts Alliance make events like this possible.

What makes Mural Fest important

“… contribution to our wellbeing that nature gives you, it helps you feel joy or happiness,” Utah Arts Alliance Executive Director Derek Dyer said.

Dyer said he believes murals are an easy and inexpensive way to add art to public places.

The Utah Arts Alliance is working to bring even more murals into the community by purchasing a 125-year-old church building. They hope to use this building for murals, immersive art experiences, community events, concerts, and more.

Derek Dyer said although some of the artists may have attended art school, there are some self-taught participants in Mural Fest.

Mural Fest will have a meet and greet on May 14, 2022.
