Iron County Search and Rescue safely rescue injured mountain biker

CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Iron County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team helped an injured mountain biker off of Boulder Dash Trail, part of the Southview Trailhead in Cedar City, Saturday morning.
The search and rescue team was informed by a caller that the individual had a broken collarbone and other injuries. The incident happened at roughly 10:44 a.m.
Utilizing four trucks, four 4x4s, and one ranger side by side, the eight-member team left in two groups. Once deployed the search and rescue team was able to reach the injured mountain biker in 15 minutes.
According to a Facebook posting, the injured individual was able to walk down the trail roughly 100 yards before meeting up with emergency personnel.
From there, search and rescue members assessed the injuries of the individual and stabilized him. The victim was transported down the rest of the trail on the side by side. The mission was completed by 12:45 p.m.
Emergency personnel say if you are ever injured on a trail, the best thing to do is to stay put. Once a call is made to dispatch, your GPS coordinates are locked in and sent to emergency personnel.
Additionally, the emergency personnel say if you move after making a call, it will be harder for them to find you.
