SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department had a large number of officers on 700 East between 700 South and 800 South in Salt Lake City Wednesday morning.

The SLCPD asked the public to stay away from the area at 9:15 a.m. and diverted traffic. By 9:34 a.m. the SLCPD said it had one suspect in custody and that there was “no longer any danger to the public.”

The incident unfolded over four scenes, according to police.

Public Information Officer, Sgt. Melody Cutler said the incident began Wednesday around 8:30 a.m. after reports of shots fired in Holladay.

Following the shots, the suspect went to a yoga studio where he used to be a member. He had become aggressive with other members, according to police, and was asked not to return.

At the yoga studio, people inside called the studio’s owner to make him aware of the situation. Cutler said the SLCPD also received calls about the suspect having a gun and were alerted of his presence at the yoga studio.

The suspect then got into a fight with one of the employees at the studio. The employee received minor injuries, according to Cutler, but “will be fine.”

Police said they did not receive any reports of anyone injured by the shots fired earlier.

Cutler said the investigation is ongoing. The SLCPD said the Unified Police Department is leading the investigation, as the situation began in the UPD’s jurisdiction.

KSL NewsRadio’s Kevin LaRue captured the photo below of the police presence scene.
