SALT LAKE CITY — Numerous residents across North Salt Lake have reported a “fishy smell” in the city and communities nearby. An Instagram post from Woods Cross City says that reports of the smell began at the start of the month.

Ken Leetham, North Salt Lake City manager, says the city had received calls reporting a fishy smell, with the worst reports coming from Foxboro community, through Leetham.

“We have had odors from the sewer district before… The odor is not the same odor that we typically see,” said South Davis Sewer District General Manager Matt Myers.

The Health Department concluded the smell originated from an asphalt plant in North Salt Lake. The fume from the plant is harmless and poses no threat to the surrounding communities, says the Health Department.
