LAYTON, Utah — A police chase that included an officer-involved shooting in Layton closed southbound I-15 at Hill Field Road in Davis County Wednesday morning. By 9:30 a.m., three lanes of southbound I-15 were reopened.

Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman told KSL that someone called the police to report a man sleeping in a car in someone else’s driveway.

“He woke up, saw that it was the police, and basically backed out trying to get away,” Lyman said.

While trying to get away, Lyman said the suspect hit a patrol car. Then, a chase ensued on SR-193 and southbound I-15.

Lyman said the suspect shot at officers after his car was spiked and while he was driving on I-15. He did not injure any officers.

When they returned fire, officers shot the suspect at least once.

The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and Lyman said he will be taken to jail after he’s released from the hospital.

The man continued onto I-15 after the confrontation, where he was stopped by police and eventually surrendered.

Sgt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol said the UHP assisted Layton Police with the incident.

KSL NewsRadio’s Heather Kelly reported Wednesday morning that all traffic was forced to exit on Antelope Drive.

The UHP advised drivers to avoid the area and plan an alternate route. Kelly advised using US-89 as an alternate.

Layton resident Dallin Webb recorded loud popping noises on a Ring Doorbell camera around 7:00 a.m.
