Next part of two-part storm will be warm, wet and windy, expert says

SALT LAKE CITY — The second part of the two-piece winter storm arrived in the state on Tuesday. This portion of the storm can best be described as warm, wet and windy, according to Michael Wessler of the National Weather Service.

Wessler says there will be wind and rain in the valley. Additionally, the mountains will continue to see additional snow.

“This comes in with quite a bit of wind,” he said. “This one is a little more of a proper atmospheric river than what we saw last night. So that means warm, wet and windy.”

Wessler says there is a chance that the valley rain will turn to snow overnight, making for a slushy commute Wednesday morning. 

“Lower elevations areas can expect a mix of rain and snow,” he said. “Whereas valley benches and mountains can expect all snow.”

He says Wednesday morning’s commute shouldn’t be anything major. Additionally, Wessler says the state will have a few days to dry out before the next storm arrives on Sunday.

The National Weather Service tweeted out late Tuesday night that snow was already beginning to fall in parts of the Wasatch Front.

Rain is quickly changing to snow in the Wasatch Front from west to east, along with wind gusts in the 40-50 mph range! Be careful out there this evening as conditions are becoming quite treacherous.
