SALT LAKE CITY — Dozens of new temple sites have been announced at recent General Conferences of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So, what might happen this weekend?

How many new temple sites are coming?

Right now, nobody knows the number of new temples that may be announced over the coming General Conference weekend.

Since becoming president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in January 2018, Russell M. Nelson has revealed nearly 70 new planned temples.

In April, President Nelson announced 20 new sites. That is the second-highest number of new temples announced at one time in the organization’s history, according to the church.

The 20 locations announced in April include:

  • Oslo, Norway
  • Brussels, Belgium
  • Vienna, Austria
  • Kumasi, Ghana
  • Beira, Mozambique
  • Cape Town, South Africa
  • Singapore, Republic of Singapore
  • Belo Horizonte, Brazil
  • Cali, Colombia
  • Querétaro, Mexico
  • Torreón, Mexico
  • Helena, Montana
  • Casper, Wyoming
  • Grand Junction, Colorado
  • Farmington, New Mexico
  • Burley, Idaho
  • Eugene, Oregon
  • Elko, Nevada
  • Yorba Linda, California
  • Smithfield, Utah

A church spokesman said former President Gordon B. Hinckley holds the distinction of announcing the most temples at one time, 32 back in 1998.

There are now 250 temples that have been announced, under construction, or are operating, according to the church.
