Parole fugitive arrested after allegedly breaking into a garage

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police say a 42-year-old parole fugitive was taken into custody for allegedly entering a garage and stealing a bike.
Just before 1 a.m. Thursday, police say they received a call from a homeowner. The homeowner reported their bike had been stolen from their garage. They reported the individual took off on the bike near 1300 E. Wilson Avenue.
The suspect, who has been identified as Amos Hayes, was safely taken into custody. According to a police news release, Hayes refused to identify himself to authorities.
In the investigation, police also learned that Hayes had allegedly stolen a motorcycle from another home and rummaged through another vehicle.
Additionally, police discovered that Hayes was a fugitive from Adult Probation and Parole.
According to the release, Hayes was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of one felony count of burglary, one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle. He was also booked for investigation of failure to disclose identity, a misdemeanor, and possession of burglary tools.
