Salt Lake City Police investigate a homicide 800 South. The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Sunday. Suspect(s) still at large. (SLCPD photo January 14, 2024)

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Sunday.

According to a press release, SLCPD received calls about a shooting in the area of 300 E. 800 S. at approximately 2:37 a.m.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered a deceased man on the sidewalk. From here, SLCPD requested help from detectives with the Homicide Squad.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police say they suspect an argument led to the shooting. According to witnesses, the suspect or suspects fled in a car. It is not known which direction they went. At this time, police have not given a description of the suspect(s) or vehicle. 

Police are still working on identifying the victim.

There have been no arrests at this time. However, police said there does not appear to be any imminent threat to the public.
