SALT LAKE CITY— Utah will get a round of valley rain and mountain snow on Monday. Mother Nature has at least one more winter storm for northern Utah this season.
National Weather Service Lead Meteorologist Christine Kruse told KSL NewsRadio areas from Brigham City to Central Utah could see up to an inch of rain before midnight Tuesday.
Kruse said Utah’s mountains are expected to pick up another six inches to a foot of snow, with the upper Cottonwoods looking at potentially 18 inches.
Kruse said the rain will eventually taper off late Monday night.
KSL Meteorologists are forecasting temperatures to climb back into the 60s Tuesday with the potential to flirt with 70 by Saturday. Little to no rain is forecasted the following seven days.
More snow? But, it’s April!
Kruse said it’s not that uncommon to get a winter storm this time of year. Plus, it actually has some benefits.
“We can have some pretty big storms in April,” Kruse said. “This isn’t atypical, but it’s a nice continuation of our snowpack.”
Utah’s snow water equivalent is expected to rise again with the storm. The SWE or the amount of water in the statewide snowpack, currently sits at 16.1 inches, which is 1% above yearly norms. That number is also about 26% above 30-year averages.
The SWE actually peaked on April 2 at 18.8 inches, but has been starting to melt off with warmer temperatures.
