SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City International Airport reports expectations of an increase in the number of travelers on Oct. 17, 18 and 19 during the Utah Education Association Fall Break.

An increase of 28,000 passengers will be traveling through the airport each day during those dates, says SLC Airport.

Reminders when flying during Fall Break

Officials want to remind travelers to arrive two hours prior to their scheduled departure to allow time to park, check luggage and get through security.

Passengers are also encouraged to check flight times to assure their flight is on time and to print or upload boarding passes before departing for the airport.

The airport says it’s garage for short-term parking typically fills to capacity on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

If this is the case, drivers will be directed to the economy parking lot which requires passengers to board a shuttle bus to the terminals, which takes more time to navigate.

Verify questionable items online

SLC officials recommend going to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) webpage to verify which items are acceptable in carry-on luggage as well as the number of bags allowed per passenger.

For more information on permitted items look here: http://www.tsa.gov/travel/travel-tips

According to the report, The Salt Lake International Airport is the 23rd busiest airport in North America and the 85th busiest in the world.

There are more than 340 flights that depart daily to 95 nonstop destinations around the world.

New developments for the SLC airport

The airport is currently going through a “$3.6 billion redevelopment program,” and the first phase will be completed in 2020.

KSL Newsradio Reporter Peter Samore interviewed Mike Williams, program director for the new SLC airport, on Facebook live to give viewers an idea of what the project looks like now and will look like in the future.

“We have a program here at the airport, a redevelopment program, and we are rebuilding the airport. So we are building a new airport and today we are standing on the roof of half of the new south concourse which will open in the fall of 2020, along with a new parking garage, a new terminal, a new central utility plant and all kinds of new shops and restaurants,” says Williams.
