SALT LAKE CITY — In wake of a challenging year, KSL NewsRadio and KSL-TV received four Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for their production of outstanding broadcast and digital journalism in 2020.

Murrow Awards for KSL TV, Radio

Out of the Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico TV markets, KSL-TV won the distinguished Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence, one of the most prestigious awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). In addition to Overall Excellence, KSL-TV’s Mike Headrick was honored with Excellence in Writing.

KSL NewsRadio took home a regional Murrow in the news category for its series ‘A Costly Cure.‘ Reporters Kelli Pierce and John Wojcik investigated the price of prescription medication and what was being done in Utah to make life-saving medicine more affordable.

“The KSL-TV and NewsRadio teams work relentlessly to cover stories with significant impact for our community,” said Tanya Vea, Senior Vice President and General Manager of KSL-TV and NewsRadio’s parent company, Bonneville International. “They produce stories, like these that have been honored, that shine light on difficult topics and help promote solutions to serious issues.”

KSL NewsRadio also won an Edward R. Murrow award in the podcast category for the in-depth series ‘Hope in Darkness: The Josh Holt Story.‘ The podcast series, hosted by KSL NewsRadio’s Becky Bruce, explored the two-year imprisonment of native Utahn Josh Holt in a notorious Venezuelan prison.

“I’m incredibly proud of the KSL teams for this well-deserved recognition, particularly this year,” said Vea. “The work exemplifies our brand promise to build up, connect, inform, and celebrate Utah’s communities and families; a mission that, as the world – and families right here in Utah – battled unprecedented challenges, proved to be more critical this year than it ever has been before.”
