Odgen police arrest man after making threats toward his family, police

OGDEN, Utah — The Ogden Police Department took a man into custody Thursday morning after he fired a gun, and then made threats toward his family and police.

Ogden police received a call of a weapons disturbance in the area of 258 N. Eccles Ave. at 4:20 a.m.

According to police, when authorities arrived at the scene, Matais Yosino, 18, was armed with a shotgun and a pistol. He was threatening his family, and also made threats law enforcement officials. 

Yosino’s mother and sister both reported to authorities that he had been drinking. His mother allowed authorities to do a search of the backyard, and they discovered what is suspected to be drug paraphernalia and a homemade firearm.

Yosino’s sister told authorities that he forced his way into her room by breaking the door. Once in the room, he fired the gun once into the ceiling. 

Upon being read his Miranda rights, Yosino admitted to being drunk, and told police that alcohol was to partially to blame for his actions.

Additionally, Yosino told authorities that he planned to commit suicide by cop. When police asked him about the bulletproof vest they found, he said he used it for protection.

According to police documents, Yosino was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of felony discharge of a firearm; criminal mischief; aggravated assault; transaction of a firearm by a restricted person; consumption of alcohol by a minor; use or possession of drug paraphernalia and intoxication.
