Apartments and town houses on Traverse Mountain Boulevard in Lehi are pictured on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021. The U.S. Census Bureau is set to release more information collected in the 2020 survey. The influx of new apartments and condos in Utah County has fueled population growth in comparison to Salt Lake County.

LEHI CITY, Utah — Lehi City is taking a page from the Netherlands to create more transportation-friendly streets.

Two city planners recently visited the Netherlands and returned in awe of their easily accessible and multi-functional manners of transportation. The Lehi Free Press reported that these planners spent seven days biking, walking, and riding through the cities.

The Lehi City Director of Community Development, Kim Struthers, and Planning Division Manager, Mike West, returned from the Netherlands wanting to transform their home into a more mobility-free city for people of all ages and abilities. They’re hoping to create more streets and roads within the city that will become safe and enjoyable routes for all modes of travel, including bike riding and walking.

The Struthers claim the city currently has a connected network of streets and roads that allow one to drive anywhere. But now, they’re looking to create more easy and convenient paths for those who have other ideas of getting from point A to point B.

They say the next step is to work on the active transportation network in Lehi. Therefore, ensuring convenient, easy access to all future and pre-existing transportation services.
