SALT LAKE CITY — Westbound I-215 will close between 280 East, exit 10, and the I-15 junction, exit 12, on Friday starting at 9 p.m. The plan is to reopen westbound I-215 on Monday at 5 a.m.
Construction crews will be removing the top surface of the 300 West bridge over westbound I-215, hence the need to close.
Drivers are advised the detour around the road closure will take extra time. The detours for the westbound I-215 closure will consist of getting off at 280 East, according to UDOT.
Construction Alert: This Fri night, westbound I-215 will be closed at State Street to I-15 until Mon AM. A detour will be in place. Check the UDOT Traffic App or @waze before travel @UDOTRegionTwo @UtahTrucking

Traffic will then be directed down State Street to 5300 South, where drivers will have to get on the I-15 Southbound freeway to get back on westbound I-215.
“It’s not going to be a huge inconvenience,” UDOT spokesperson John Gleason said. “But you want to plan ahead for it. And you want to know that there are no surprises and anything if you’re not planning for it and you’re running late can be an inconvenience. So you are going to have to plan an extra five to seven minutes just to get through that area.”
Nighttime construction will include increased lighting, vibrations, noise, and dust.
The 300 West bridge over westbound I-215 will remain closed to vehicles and pedestrians through June. However, weather and shipping delays of equipment and materials may impact the length of the project.
“When you think about bridges, this is about the most extensive work that you can do on a bridge without actually replacing it,” said Gleason.
According to UDOT, reconstruction work on the 300 West and 700 West bridges over I-215 is expected to continue through 2024.
Gleason says there will also be a short ramp closure.
“The ramp connecting Northbound I-15 to westbound I-215 that’s going to be closed overnight on Friday so that we can work on the barriers out there.”
He says they’re hoping to have all lanes of traffic reopened on I-215 before the morning rush on Monday.
