TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — The Taylorsville Police Department arrested a 51-year-old man following a high-speed chase that got up to 105 mph. The chase began right before 5 p.m. on Monday, July 4, 2022.

The high-speed pursuit began Monday afternoon when Taylorsville Police Department Sgt. Orin Neal attempted to make a traffic stop at 5400 S near 3000 W.

According to Neal, the suspect was a wanted fugitive with several felony warrants.

“It was a stolen vehicle driven by a wanted fugitive with numerous felony warrants including an aggravated kidnapping warrant,” Neal said.

The suspect fled during the attempted stop, and police pursued the car, kicking off the 15-minute-long chase.

“We went through Taylorsville, West Valley, back through Taylorsville again and then into West Jordan,” Neal said.

The driver hit high speeds, Neal said, estimating “On I-215 he was up around 105 miles an hour. On surface streets, I think he got up to 70 to 80 mph.”

The suspect, 51-year-old Alexis Acosta, eventually pulled into the parking lot of a West Jordan strip mall and surrendered to police officers.

According to a probable cause statement, Acosta said the car belonged to a friend who owed him money. Acosta, according to the statement, said that because he hadn’t gotten his money, he took the car.

According to Neal, Acosta was an AP&P fugitive. Neal said that because Acosta violated his felony probation, he had fugitive status.

Neal added that Acosta also had numerous misdemeanor and felony warrants from agencies throughout the county.  The car involved in the pursuit had been stolen out of Taylorsville.

Neal said there were no injuries or accidents caused by the pursuit.

A female passenger was in the car when Acosta surrendered, but Neal said she was not involved.
